Portugal the Man – Censored Colors
If you know me at all, you know that I’m not accustomed to working long hours. If you know me well, you know that I’ve started a new business venture with my friend Duane. I’ll spare you the details for now, but know that I’m extremely busy and working hard (relatively speaking). More to the point, You should check out Portugal the Man. They have a new CD, Censored Colors, that’s due to release in September. It’s bound to be pretty amazing, and I except it to make it into my heavy rotation.
Server Change
Dearest friends, I am in the process of moving phrough.net to a new hosting account. Things might be a bit weird during this process. Also, you will need to register again, as your accounts did not transfer (though your previous comments did). My apologies. Hopefully my RSS feed will be working now (or soon) for those of you who are in to such things. If you aren’t, I highly suggest you look into it.
Talkdemonic – Eyes at Half Mast
If you’re a fan of Album Leaf, you’ll probably be a fan of Talkdemonic. If you aren’t familiar with either, this is well crafted instrumental music. It’s great stuff to listen to while working or studying. Check out some of their songs on Talkdemonic’s myspace page, or purchase Eyes at Half Mast from Amazon.com.
The Ringtone Racket
My dear friends, are you actually paying for ringtones? What a rediculous concept, especially considering that many ringtones cost more than you would actually pay for the song itself. Paying for ringtones is a concept almost as silly as paying extra money for text messaging services, but thats an entirely different conversation. Here to save the day is a free service offered by myxer.com. Using their website, you can create your own ringtones from audio files (mp3s included) already stored on your computer. You can then have the ringtone sent via text, or login through your mobile browser to download the ringtone. Awesome!
Camper Van Beethoven – Popular Songs of Great Enduring Strength and Beauty
Though they celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary as a band this year, chances are you haven’t heard of Camper Van Beethoven (maybe you know the song Take the Skinheads Bowling?). Either way, they’ve got a new album (which is basically a ‘greatest hits’ from the span of 1985-1990) and you might as well check it out. Listen to some songs on the Camper Van Beethoven myspace page, or buy buy Popular Songs of Great Enduring Strength and Beauty on Amazon.com, or both. Not convinced? Me either.
The Verve – Fourth
Rumor on the internets is that this album has leaked. ARRRRR! Check out some samples below.
Ra Ra Riot – The Rhumb Line
From the pages of Rolling Stone:
Ra Ra Riot combine Arcade Fire’s orchestral reveries with Vampire Weekend’s pop sensibility for an album that’s both effervescent and heartbreaking.
Now those are some quality comparisons! This is certainly good stuff though, and I have no problem with such a description. Go have a listen on the Ra Ra Riot myspace page. Then, go buy The Rhumb Line.

Amazon.com Bill Me Later Discount
I don’t want to tell you how to spend your money, but I do want to let you in on a sweet deal. Amazon.com is trying to promote its new Bill Me Later option (which is actually provided by a third party company). They are offering discounts across many departments, but the one of particular interest to me is the music discount. If you spend $50 you get $10 off when paying with Bill Me Later. If you spend $100 you get $20 off. I took advantage and picked some new vinyls (including a couple of the upcoming Radiohead vinyl re-releases… Kid A
and Amensiac
). Amazon has a really good vinyl selection
. Go check it out.
Back to the discount. All you do is select the “Bill Me Later” payment option. You’ll have to provide some information to Bill Me Later (so they can bill you, it only makes sense). Then enter the promo code BMLMUSIC at the order review screen. Do not make the frustrating mistake of trying to enter the code on the payment selection screen like I did. You have to do it on the order review page, as the system isn’t capable of setting the payment method and then applying the promo code correctly from the same page (are you listening Amazon?). More Bill Me Later discount codes after the break. Also, be sure to use my Amazon.com links so I can get paid big bucks from your purchases. Read the rest of this entry »
